Runaways - Part 4; Sandy West

Sandy West didn't write too many songs for the Runaways but here are some that she wrote afterwards. I think all of these songs could easily have been Runaways songs. Sound quality is very good though they are a slight bit distorted.

Single (1984)
01. F-13
02. Wild Thing [Troggs]

Demos (1994)
01. I Do Believe
02. However You Want It
03. Sunset Girls

Runaways - Part 3; Live 1978

Joan Jett sings lead on all of these show. Vicki Blue plays bass on the Palladium show and on the Oslo show. While Laurie McAllister plays bass on the Whiskey show. The Palladium show is a soundboard recording and the sound quality is very good. The other two shows are audience recordings and the sound quality is good.

Runaways - Part 1; Live 1976

Years before Punk me and my friends discovered the Runaways. For Christmas in 1975 I asked my mom to buy me the album Kiss Alive. I'd seen it in the record store and thought it looked cool but I'd never heard the music before. When I got my Kiss album on Christmas day me and my brother listened to it and thought it was the greatest thing we'd ever heard. We were only 10 and 11 years old and didn't really know anything about Rock music. But we were fans. In that time every weekend one of us would go shopping with our Grandmother. After shopping she would turn us loose in the record store and we were allowed to buy one record for ourselves. Sometime in 1976 my brother came home with the first Runaways album. We never heard of them before and he said he bought it because there were hot chicks on the cover. It turned out to be a fantastic record that we still listen to today.

The Cleveland show is either a radio broadcast or a soundboard recording and the sound quality is very good. The CBGBs show is an audience recording with good sound quality. The Starwood show is from an old tape of a bootleg album. It was recorded from the audience and the sound quality is good. The Cleveland and New York shows I got in a CD-R trade about 10 years ago.

D.U.I. - Snot Rock And The Dirty Dozen demo 1997

D.U.I. were from the quaint village of Pennsburg Pennsylvania and were around for about three years in the mid-1990s. They recorded three demos and had two songs on a local CD compilation. Sadly, they never made it past the county line. They sound like early 1980s hardcore with Kurt Cobain singing. Sound quality is very good.

Suburban Youth/Kung Fu Monkey Patrol - Lazar Quest, Wyomissing PA 8-22-97

Here's two bands that were from my hometown in the 1990s. Two of the few. Both bands shared the same singer. Kung Fu Monkey Patrol were only around for a very short time playing only a handful of shows and never releasing anything. Their sound is influenced by early 1980s American hardcore and some of their songs have Ska parts. suburban Youth were influenced by early Seven Seconds and Minor Threat. They were around a couple years and recorded two demos and had two songs on a local CD comp. I recorded this show from the audience on a boombox and the sound quality is good.

Siouxsie & The Banshees/Adam & The Ants - Vortex, London 7-11-77

Here's two now legendary bands playing early shows at a legendary venue. Both sets were recorded from the audience. The Siouxsie set has good sound quality and has the advantage of being from a low generation cassette. The Ants recording is very rough and raw and is recommended for those who are Ants completists. The Ants set I lifted off the I Vomit For U!  blog. I've done some small editing to it to cut out gaps, raise playback volume and eliminate tape lead in and out. Has anyone got the Slits set?

Psychedelic Furs - Live 1980/1981

Back in 1980 I was not as interested in the emerging Post Punk bands as I was interested in the emerging Los Angeles hardcore bands. However, I loved Psychedelic Furs. Here's three shows from their early American tours. The Philadelphia show I got in a CD-R trade about 10 years ago. It wasn't marked with a venue so I don't know where it took place. It's an audience recording and the sound quality is good. The New York show is also an audience recording and the sound quality is good, though, there is a bit more tape hiss than is generally desired. The Maryland show is a radio broadcast and the sound quality is very good.

Turbo Hy Dramatics – EP + 2 LPs (1984-1985) [ex R. Hell + ex Buzzcocks]

Here is a band no one seems to have ever heard of. I used to have this album on a tape but lost it a long time ago. I only have these first two songs from the album. Has anyone got it. I don't want to own the LP but some nice mp3s would be great.

The main person in the band was Geoff Freeman who in the early 1980s played guitar in RICHARD HELL's band and can be heard on some tracks on the Time CD. The drummer was Vinnie Signorelli who was later famous with the Unsane. The band released one 12"ep and two albums. On the 12"ep Steve Garvey from the BUZZCOCKS played bass. On the albums they had different bass players including Russell Berke who was at one time in Certain General.

The band were based out of New York City but were active in Germany and all their records were released in that country.

I've never heard the second album and would like to if anyone has it. It doesn't seem any of their records were re-released on CD.

Some info here: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Turbo+Hy+Dramatics?anv=Turbo+Hy-Dramatics

**Note: after I posted this a long time friend in Germany emailed to say he had the first two records and would digitize them for me. Recently, he found the 2nd LP in a record shop and has also kindly digitized that for me. Here I upload the whole set for all who are interested.

Thrills - Live + Demo 1978/1980

Here's the Thrills from Boston who released one single in 1979 and then after a name change to City Thrills they released a 10" ep. In 2004 a CD collection of studio and live tracks was released. The demo was unmarked on the end of the tape so I don't know if these songs were ever released anywhere.

Generation X - Live 1977/1978/1979

One band, three shows, three years. The Roundhouse show is an audience recording. It is a bit distorted at the beginning but levels out. Sound Quality is good. There are a couple songs on this show that never got released. The Electric Ballroom show is a soundboard recording and sounds like it's from a bootleg album. Sound quality is very good. The Osaka show is a soundboard recording and the sound quality is very good. This show was released on the Anthology box set. This tape has a song and in-between song chatter that didn't make in onto the CD. Also, my tape has a 1979 date while the box set has a 1978 date.
