Jimmy Norton's Explosion - John Peel Session 7-30-79

Today's post is another officially unreleased Peel session. This time from a sort of Punk Rock supergroup. The band featured Glen Matlock (Bass, Lead Vocals) fresh out of the Rich Kids and formerly of The Sex Pistols, Danny Kustow (Guitar, Backing Vocals) from Tom Robinson Band and Budgie (Drums) from Siouxsie & The Banshees and formerly of Spitfire Boys and Slits. Of these four songs Ambition and Just Like Lazarus were recorded by The Rich Kids in 1978 but remained unreleased until 1998 when they were released on the Burning Sounds CD, Ambition was also recorded by Iggy Pop when Glen played with him. This band changed their name in 1980 to Spectres and released two single, the first one featured a weaker version of Getting Away With Murder. The fourth song remains unreleased in any version.

F Models - Practice for LP 1983 + bonus tracks

Has anyone ever heard of the The F Models? They were from Akron Ohio and released two singles in the early 1980s. The first one came out in 1981 with the songs Nobody Loves Me/Russia Rocks and the second in 1982 with God Fearing Man/It's Not Right (info here:http://www.discogs.com/artist/F-Models?anv=F++Models%2C+The). Both singles are great but sadly none of the songs ever ended up on any KBD releases/boots. The band were also rehearsing songs to record for an LP which apparently was never recorded but here is one of those rehearsals. Also included are the four songs from their singles recorded at two different shows at the famous JB's in Kent Ohio, and an interview with the band.

Coldcock - Detroit MI 9-24-78

Coldcock came out of Detroit in 1978 and hung around until 1980. In those two years they released only one classic single in 1979 and had one other song on the Detroit On a Platter compilation LP in 1981. On this live set is heard all three of those songs plus one other unreleased original  and cover songs by Question Mark & The Mysterians, Joe Jones, Rolling Stones and Bee Gees. The song Popstar was recorded by The Torpedos and also appears on the Detroit On A Platter compilation LP. This is a soundboard recording.

Mau Maus - T-Bird Rollerdrome, Pico Rivera CA 1-22-83

In Los Angeles in 1976-1978 there was a band named Berlin Brats who made an appearance in the film Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke as one of the bands in the battle of the bands segment towards the end of the film. The Berlin Brats recorded a single which made it to the test pressing stage but was never officially released. However, one song from the single made in onto the Saturday Night Pogo compilation LP that was released in1978. In that same year the band changed their name to The Mau Maus and played around California until the mid 1980s. They made some recordings but only two songs were released on the Hell Comes To Your House volume 2 compilation album in 1983. They also had two songs on a Target Video release in the 1980s. Here is a short live show recorded from the sound board. Psychotic is the song from the Up In Smoke film and Laugh Track was on the Target Video. The others were unreleased.

V.A. Roxy Farewell bands 1977-1978

Here's a little collection of songs I put together for my own listening pleasure that I though many others would also enjoy. In 1978 an album titled Farewell To The Roxy was released that was recorded at the famous Roxy Club in London which is the place that basically spawned Punk Rock. This album basically featured the second generation of punk bands that were following in the footsteps of the previous ones. However, apart from one band, UK Subs, most of the bands on it never released more than a single or two. Shame, since every track on the album is very good. As it turns out most of the bands had at least made recordings and over the last few years these recordings have been showing up to the joy of those of us who want to hear more. Have a listen to rare tracks from Blitz, Red Lights, Jets, Open Sore and Crabs. The Red Lights, Jets and Open Sore tracks all are taken off of videos that showed up on YouTube. The Crabs songs are from a Peel Session they were lucky enough to record.

Eddie & The Hotrods - Left Bank, Mt Vernon NY 1-21-81

Here's another Eddie & The Hotrods show. This one is a radio broadcast from a club near New York City and was recorded in the year they broke up. By the time this was recorded both Paul Gray and Graeme Douglas had left and instead of adding a second guitarist a keyboard player was added which contributed to a more subdued sound. However, there is still plenty of energy in their delivery making this show a very enjoyable listen and their set includes many songs from the Fish 'n' Chips album along with the expected hits.

Heroes - Max's, NYC 6-26-81 (w/Walter Lure)

After The Heartbreakers split at the end of 1977, Walter Lure played and recorded through the late 1970s and early 1980s with several bands including The Blessed and The Incognitos. Two songs he recorded in 1978 (Seven Day Weekend and Too Much Junkie Business) didn't get released on vinyl until 1983 under the band name The Heroes which at the time was his current band. The Heroes of 1983 never released anything but someone was nice enough to to make this audience recording of one of their gigs. A few Heartbreakers songs are played, a couple of covers and a pile of new songs, some of which were only released in the 1990s on the Waldos Rent Party CD and others remain unreleased.
