Here's three live Adverts shows from 1978. These shows are interesting because they are playing six new songs written after the first album, some of which would, in slightly different versions, end up on the second album. These were all recorded from the audience so the sound is raw. The Marquee has the best sound of the three despite some serious tape hiss.

Thanks for the post, the Croydon show is barely even hearable though... it almost sounds like muffled nails on a chalkboard almost mixed with the actual Adverts concert taken place itself...but at least I can still hear some of it. Really damaged.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, do you have any Nervous Gender by any chance you can upload?
Can't do anything about crap sound quality. It is what it is. All I can give you is what I got. Nothing by Nervous Gender.
ReplyDeleteOOOOOH!!!!! LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE IS A BIG FAN OF NERVOUS GENDER!!!! To the Anon, I have like 2 early Nervous Gender shows that I can suggest bat29 to post, so bat29, can you please post these shows on your blog? Here they are in chronological order:
ReplyDeleteKPFK 9-79: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=98SMNOIS
This was off a radio broadcast, but the sound quality is not as great as you would expect off a radio boot.
Anticlub, LA 12-06-79 (audio only): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XSIHFWAR
This was off a video, but this is not the full show sadly. I tried to find the full show, but I couldn't and this is all I could find. 6 songs, with half of them being cut... I don't even know how many songs could have been in this set. Does anyone have the full set??? If so, can you please inform bat29? Thanks.
Anyways besides this whole Nervous Gender thing, thanks for posting these Adverts shows from 1978, especially the Top Rank one from 1979. Sure, the quality on all 4 ain't that great but it is a great experience hearing them on stage, especially the Top Rank show when the guitars where replaced by keyboards which sounded very interesting!
ReplyDeleteActually anon., there is a guitar on that Top Rank show but it is so low in the mix it's not possible to hear it. My comments were really a joke. It seems many people do not like the adverts second album because they added keyboards. When I wrote that I was just imagining how angry those people would be to hear and think they a band they loved would completely replace the guitar with keyboards and then dare to play those classic Punk songs with that arrangement. Fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, at first I thought I believed that there was no guitar because I could rarely hear it, you got me with that! But still...even if there was a keyboard on the second album and the Top Rank show all in 1979...they sound so amazing just like they were in 1975-1978.
