Is it All Over Now?
It seems that Mediafire has suspended my whole account over a single copyright issue relating to one Hawkwind post I made a while ago. I do have permissions from a good portion of the bands whose music I have posted but that doesn't seem to mean anything since, I guess, the music industry owns the copyright to all music ever created (including my own which I have posted here) in the history of this planet. Sending emails to Mediafire support to try to sort this out doesn't seem to do anything because they apparently ignore anyone who isn't a part of the music industry money machine. So, what to do now. Are there any file hosting sites that are not ankle-grabbers for the music industry? I hope everyone was able to get everything they wanted.

weird!
ReplyDeletei got one of those messages too a few months ago,no access to that file,so deleted it,but the rest still works overhere...
so just keep it going, just dont up that file again, should be ok...
D.
Try FileFactory if this helps
ReplyDeleteRapidshare is always cool...
ReplyDeleteThis is rather odd.
ReplyDeleteThe Hawkwind boot that you posted is on Hawkwind Rat Sauce, a site dedicated to Hawkwind bootlegs.
Hawkwind's attitude to live recordings appears to be that as long as the recording is not less than 3 years old and is not a soundboard then it's not a problem. It's not as if your bootleg was related to an official release from that time (California Brainstorm, which ironically Rat Sauce has made available the missing tracks from that gig). Why not contact them via their official website to see if they can provide an answer or help?
I hope that you don't give up, there was still stuff that I wanted to download.
sick of this, people who download bootlegs already have bought everything imaginable, often more than once due to poxy reissue policy of extra tracks and dvd's added every few years, let me have my rarities ya bastards, hope ya get it sorted and don't call it a day (a voice shouts loud, never surrender - The Ruts)
ReplyDeletePhinky
i hope it isn't over! you are doing a great service providing all this historical stuff!
ReplyDeleteDon't give up! I'm a fuckin noise addict I'm just waiting for you back.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they're suspending access to this particular Hawkwind file and nothing else, right? Please try to keep NA going, and perhaps go with Rapidshare in the future.
ReplyDeleteFileFacory is real flakey, by restricting free users at certain times.
ReplyDeleteRapidshare is slow for free users, but seems to be immune from the Record Company clutches, because they are located in Switzerland.
Mediafire is in the USA, so they are pretty much doomed! I believe 4shared is also?
File sharing services in Europe and Asia are the best bet for now. Provided they don't have any mainframes in the US (Megaupload).
Good luck! I enjoy your blog!
Is it all over now? Just reading the question made me groan. I also hope you find a way to work around another huge setback. I can only guess at all the time, effort & knowledge you have pumped into maintaining such a great site. What's the answer? I don't know, but hope you do or can figure something out. Thanks for Noise Addiction--may it live on.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this really sucks and hope you go with a new hosting site soon (RS or Deposit Files) seems to be clipping along ok at the moment...I was jut thinking of dropping you aline around some stuff I believe I have on your want list as well as some stuff you may not have...hope you do decide to get back up and running but if not thanks for all you put up previously.
ReplyDeleteU have the best site for old school punk. Hope u come back. Thanks. Milk
ReplyDeleteI post some mp3 at newsgroup alt.binaries.punk
ReplyDeleteIt seems as though the music industry has taken this on as a crusade. Obviously, they have more money than we do, or any of these hosting sites for that matter. So where does that leave us????……….I guess that’s yet to be determined. I do no you can never underestimate the human spirit. Throughout history, some of the best ideas have come out of adversity, and necessity; I’m sure this will be no different. I know it’s frustrating, but I hope you hang in there.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I can't believe just found out that it was a WEBSITE that took away your mediafire account and all your files!! I thought it was a company at first...
ReplyDeleteMF are MF'ers.
ReplyDeleteI've gone back to Rapidshare but the clock may be ticking there too...
Hy Brett, that's a sad new... thank you for the recordings you posted, it's a great job you've done here.
ReplyDeleteI think the best option is to use again Soulseek...
In my own personal experience I have found that Rapidshare is only good for smaller files (less than 22mb) and Mediafire for the bigger/album shares. I do have a paid acc at MF but it is just as fast it seems when I am not logged in. 4shared used to be good but the past few weeks I have not been able to d/l anything from there at all. The only other site that has worked for me is one called Megashare.(Although that was a one-off). Divshare is usually good too.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with this mess and thanks for the the shares!
Nathan
Record industry (or what's left of it) is running scared right now, trying to put the squeeze on anybody and everybody it can to get their 2 cents worth. Fuck em'. Keep going, you provide a valuable historical resource that means a hell of a lot more than 99% of anything released by a "real" record label in the last five years!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable what what is it with these bloody people!!!
ReplyDeleteYou site has been a complete joy and has brought us some amazing stuff. I really hope you can find away to carry on mate.
Thanks for everything you have done here.
All the best,
Marky.
I agree with comment above. Try, CRAMIT.IN. You get paid for uploads!
ReplyDeleteIf you read this blog is about getting music to people for free. Rapidshare is called that for nothing. Its the fastest I've known!
