X Ray Spex - Brixton Academy, London 9-14-91

The X Ray Spex did a reunion show in 1991 and some thoughtful person taped it for those of us who couldn't be there. I don't know which original band members were involved but not all of them were, I believe. The most interesting thing about this show is the four new songs. Those songs fit better with the Conscious Consumer album of 1995 than they do with the first album material of 1978 but after listening to that first album a million times I prefer to hear these new songs especially Be Conscious and Trick Of The Witch. Sadly, as far as I know, they have never been released officially. This is an audience recording so the quality is a bit rough.

  2. I'll add those shows to the queue. Those tapes were from my collection and have been stored at a friends place for the last 5 years. I just got them back and am now making a list of everything to post here. I don't have my stereo set up yet so it might be a little while until I can start transferring tapes to CD.

One former member of BGK has a blog with some BGK stuff uploaded. Go here for that: http://tonyslug.blogspot.com/

  3. The X ray Spex reunion was a great show and lucky for me I was there. All the bands, Lurkers, 666, Chelsea and several more all came to play. It was a joyous day for this Brooklyn boy.

  4. The original band for this show was Philip Barker (later Buzzcocks drummer) on drums, Tony Barber(later Buzzcocks bassist) on bass, Crispin Mills(later in Kula Shaker) on guitar and a sax player whose name escapes me. They rehearsed right up to a week or so before the gig and then the line up was changed on the spur of the moment.
The track 'Trick Of The Witch' was released in 1986 as a 7 & 12. It was produced by Paul Inder(Lemmy's son),who also played a lot of the instruments and programming.
Thoroughly recommend the recorded version of that track, easily the best thing she ever did after t'Germ Free' in my book.
